The road of the chapels

Manigod is a very extensive valley and is made up of 6 hamlets. Each of its hamlets all have their chapels and bread ovens. The chapels date from the Baroque period, a rural Baroque. They are all built with donations from the locals.
The chapel route is a new project, proposed by the neighborhoods of the valley, as well as the City of Manigod.
They are used for protection: protection against famines, protection of inhabitants, crops, natural disasters; but also for certain requests such as good weather or rain.
The route offers a heritage and historical discovery of each of the six chapels present on the territory.

The chapels concerned are called:
Villard-Dessous, Montpellaz, Plan des Berthats, Joux, Tournance and La Charmette.
For each, an outdoor information panel explaining their history is available to visitors.

This route of the chapels which is to be done by car, can be the object of a walk thanks to a pedestrian path between the chapels of Joux, Tournance and La Charmette.

Guided tours are also organized with the Thônes Guides Office.
An accompanying brochure is available and free at the Tourist Office of the village of Manigod, but also at the two tourist information points of Croix Fry and Merdassier.
