Hike: Sentier des Charteux

This hike will take you in the footsteps of the Carthusian monks who inhabited the forests of the Grand Colombier from the 12th century to the French Revolution.
From about 800 meters in altitude, it will take you up to almost 1200 meters to discover the site of Arvière, a wild and isolated place, a privileged refuge for contemplative life.

To discover along the route:
- La Correrie d'Arvière in La Rivoire. (Another building used by monks in lower altitude).
- Le pont du Faon. (Bridge above the river Arvière)
- La Grotte de Saint Arthaud. (Small cave on the way up).
- Le sapin Janicot. (300 y.o tree).
- The wild river Arvière.
- Arvière: Chalet d'Arvière (restaurant), the botanical gardens, the ruins of the Charterhouse.
