Street Philibert Commerson

In reference to Philibert Commerson (1727-1773 ). Son of a solicitor Châtillonais, he exercised some time the medicine in his home town then having lost his wife, he left Chatillon for Paris, where he became Botanist and Naturalist of King Louis XV. It is as such that he(was indicated to participate in the expedition of Bougainville around the world. He embarked in Rochefort on December 15th, 1766, accompanied with his governess Jeanne Baret whom he made be supposed to be for his lackey during 7 years. He collected 5000 sorts of plants, among which completely new 3000. We owe him the hydrangea, the plant of China, which it so baptized in honour of Hortense of Nassau. He died in 1773 bequeathing to the Garden of King a herbarium of 200 volumes. Jeanne Barret was the first woman sailing around the world
